| ^That's EXACTLY what I'm telling these close-minded idiots over at YouTube! I've been arguing with these fuckers for like the past 3 days because all they're doing is bitching about it, while I'm over there telling them that one should like a song for what it is and represents, and not by it's genre/style! (I obviously didn't say it to them in that nice manner though, but they got it) I keep telling them to appreciate it for what it's trying to convey and the message it exposes to its audience. But obviously, some of these brick-headed douchebags just don't fuckin get it! I tell them that Within Temptation is still the same Within Temptation, they never had a "set" Style, and they're unique because of that. So I basically told them to shove their "labeling"/"classifications" up their asses because nobody should force anything on anybody. So yeah... _________________ Thanks ANDY!" | So I found the lyrics Utopia: The burning desire to live and roam free
It shines in the dark And it grows within me
Youre holding my hand but you dont understand
So where I am going, you wont be in the end
Im dreaming in colors
Of getting the chance
Of dreaming of trying the perfect romance
The search of the door, to open your mind In search of the cure of mankind Help us were drowning So close up inside Why does it rain, rain, rain down on utopia? Why does it have to kill the idea of who we are? Why does it rain, rain, rain down on utopia? How will the lights die down, telling us who we are? I'm searching for Answers your hurting inside, is there life within me?
Youre holding my hand but you dont understand So you're taking the road all alone in the end Im dreaming in colors, no boundaries are there Im dreaming the dream, and Ill sing to share In search of the door, to open your mind In search of the cure of mankind Help us were drowning So close up inside Why does it rain, rain, rain down on utopia Why does it have to kill the idea of who we are? Why does it rain, rain, rain, down on utopia? And when the lights die down, telling us who we are
Why does it rain, rain, rain down on utopia Why does it have to kill the idea of who we are? Why does it rain, rain, rain down on utopia And when the lights die down, telling us who we are Why does it rain? This song is very me right now. I love it lots and lots. |

| So after what has been one of the worst weeks in recent memory, I think I understand (my interruptation) of Utopia...beyond the original giddy in love feeling I felt toward certain lryics in that song. For me the world is a very beautiful place (thus Utopia) but looking back it only got that way because of rain because the floods and destruction gave rise to rebuilding and a rush of beauty. It in chasing this beauty we find the "burning desire to live and roam free" It's a choice to be free from the sorrow, the destruction and to dance merrily with the sun and the flowers<3 So we can drown in the madness (cuz oh there is no escaping the madness) or we can take a step away and walk another path...perhaps one that runs parallel to all the sorrow on which we see it but can also keep our eyes on the bright love<3 There is life within us all...But perhaps we need a little rain to unlock that potential. _________________ ~The children the world almost broke become the adults who save it~ I know, should realise Time is precious, it is worthwhile. | I don't get why some people call this song pop. I mean, it's calmer than the usual WT song, but it still sounds so WT-ish... I would call something pop when it's somewhere between Lady Gaga and Greenday. |

| I love Lady Gaga It's not a pop song. It's not anything, it's a WT song. What do people class as WT? Maybe they now think of the orchestra I dunno but there is no set WT style. Enter sounds nothing like Mother Earth and Mother Earth sounds nothing like THOE. Utopia sounds like a WT song to me, it does. You cant expect it to sound like anything off THOE. The lyrics are like Sharon's lyrics so whats the problem. Why cant they just like the song instead of whining. I love your interpretation Amy |

| I'm a little puzzled about who wrote Utopia now. BMI says Sharon and Daniel Gibson wrote the song, and I thought it was mainly Sharon who invited Chris. However... Robert Westerholt of Within Temptation, who was invited by Armin van Buuren’s to a concert, as Sharon den Adel (Within Temptation) performed “In and Out Of Love” with Armin, had already noticed the great voice on “Going Wrong” in Armin’s studio, was introduced to Chris Jones that evening.Robert Westerholt: “When the two of us talked about our favorite music, it became clear that we have a lot of similar ideas in respect to songwriting and we decided to meet and check out, how it would be to write together”.Chris teamed up with Robert and producer Daniel Gibson and together they started writing and recording demo’s.The first few sessions were already promising and brought to light a sound and style that Chris had been looking for all this time.Chris Jones: “It was amazing, it really clicked creatively and my voice would just fit very naturally to the melodic rock tunes we had written”.As it happened, Within Temptation had a new acoustic album in production and a new song “Utopia” was chosen to be the leading single for the release. When Sharon heard more demos from Chris Jones she knew immediately their voices would match perfectly to make “Utopia” a great duet. Now I don't get it - they imply that Utopia was one of the songs that Robert and Chris wrote together. So how did it go? |

| I have no idea, I guess we'll have to wait til we have the single in our hands and we can see who wrote it. I always assumed it would be Sharon writing the lyrics, they sound like WT lyrics but I know Robert does write some. It might just be referring to Robert writing the music. We'll have to wait til the 23rd October. |

| Maybe china is a metaphor for civilisation and wealth... I don't know. Do any of you get sad listening to Utopia? I showed the video to a friend, and she said "It makes me even more sad than just the song". But I never thought of it that way, it always makes me happy when I hear it... |

| No I think it gives a lot of hope like all WT songs. I guess it depends how everyone relates to it really. If you just read the lyrics it might sound really sad but the way it's sung gives a lot of hope. Like Anette's Ever Dream you know, I get so much hope from that now just the way she sings it. |

| Ever Dream makes me fall off my chair laughing. You can't start a song with "Would you do it with me" and not expect laughs especially considering all Nw songs are about Tarja... But Utopia definitely inspiring for me. Like beyond inspiring. _________________ ~The children the world almost broke become the adults who save it~ I know, should realise Time is precious, it is worthwhile.
