most guitarists iv seen and met do that pose at some point mostly because its helpful to see what your doing whilst still enjoying the music. Nobody is so perfect they dont have to look to play except maybe Dave Gilmore but that only for one 7 min solo.

That actually happens in concert band. If some how you screw up counting 1 and two and three and four and, you can sorta peek at the person next to you to see you their fingers are doing to get back on track. Good trick.
