Forsaken

It's currently stuck in my head. So I can't say anything bad about it

I like this song a lot. Does anybody know what it's about?

How we're treating our planet.

"As the sea started rising, the land that we conquered just washed away" = Global warming and all of the ice caps melting and raising the sea level.

"Our greed just made us all go blind" = We've really only thought of ourselves and how to make our lives easier. For example: Cars. They pollute so badly...but they make our lives a whole lot easier, so we use them.

"Today is the end of tomorrow" = What we've done in the present will greatly effect the future, so much so, that we may not even have a future.

"Although we all have tried to turn back the time" = Now people are realizing that we're fucking up our planet and now with Hybrid cars and whatnot, people are trying to save it.


And so forth. Amazing song. Nuff said.

this song rocks!! it has so much meaning and the music is just kick-ass!

TSF's best imo. Nuff said.

Oh, and a friend of mine used to think Sharon sings "As goths we shaped the world around"

you can understand that though it does sound a bit like that if you think about it

I love how she can control the audience with her little finger when she does the "hey"s during the last instrumental part.

I never really got excited about this song. But the other day I was listening to TSF and I was like...yeah!!!!

same one of my fav lines in the song.

This song always makes me feel really great when I hear it. I love the lyrics also

That's the bit I like most.

And the melody is really catchy. I wish they'd played it at BS or Eindenhoven.

I love those lyrics too. ....I think I just love the lyrics in general. ♥

Forsaken has never been one of my favourites but I do have a new love for it after listening to loads of live versions. Pale and Forsaken were my least favourites on TSF *hides* but Pale is a favourite now I do love Forsaken just not as much. Sharon's voice on it is so angelic though so I dont know why. Maybe the lyrics are a little less personally identifiable with.

but i preffer this song live because i love Sharon`s accent on"Ken"(the end of Forsaken)
one of my faves from TSF

One of the first WT songs I heard- on a King Arthur (2004) fanvid actually. Now I seem to always associate this song with that movie.

I'm going to burn in Hell for saying this, but I think Forsaken is better than Angels, or even Jillian for that matter. It's amazing. Sharon's voice is so sweet and angelic on this one.

It's my least favourite on TSF. Sharon sounds lovely on it and it's a good song it just doesn't capture me like all the other songs.

Oh, Kellie... It's one of my favourites from TSF. Very powerful to me, and Sharon indeed sings lovely. And I just love the last 30 seconds, epic!

Live is definitely better. No doubt about it. But the studio version has a more...epic(?) sound to it. The way they made Sharon's vocals all airy was really cool, I think. That's one of the things that makes the song for me.

The first song I heard off TSF.

It is definitely an epic song, especially the Java Island live version.

I think it can be taken to mean several different things, but I usually think of it as a fantasy- based song, about a 'forsaken' civilization.

Which probably doesn't make sense to anyone except me.

To envision this kind of situation, you should watch the movie, "The Day After Tomorrow" first, and listen to "Forsaken" afterwards. The songtext really speaks for itself, but watching this movie will enable you to create a visual image to go with it. "Forsaken" tells about the fact that there will be a moment that nature's elements will turn against us. We have a habit of bending everything to our wills, but not everything we do is without counter-reaction or consequences. Nature itself is, of course, changing too, we're just speeding the process up to lightning speed in the wrong direction.

There is the phenomenon of global warming, that makes the North Pole's ice cap melt, which in turn makes the sea level rise. The direct effect of this ice melting is that the polar bears are now facing extinction, and Holland gets to lie below the water level more and more. Basically, Forsaken comes down to the fact that humankind has been changing the climate dramatically, thinking only of their own economic gain and not about nature, nor about the fact that this mistake might turn out to be fatal. The moment they'll want to change because there'll be no other options left, it will be too late. People experience this as nature abandoning them, but in fact we are the ones that abandoned our Mother Earth.

I'd say look up the term "Kyoto treaty" on Google, and you'll find lots of information on this subject. You will be able to form your own opinion on this treaty, based on the information provided by its supporters and opponents.
